Creation and syndication Much of Hee Haw's origin was Canadian. Two of the series' three creators, comedy writers Frank Peppiatt and John Aylesworth, were from Canada. Bernie Brillstein, the third, was from New York. From 1969 until the late 1980s, Hee Haw was produced by Yongestreet Productions, named after Yonge Street, a major thoroughfare in Toronto. Hee Haw started on CBS-TV as a summer 1969 replacement for The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. Though the show had respectable ratings, it was dropped in July 1971 by CBS as part of the so-called Rural Purge in 1971, along with fellow country shows The Beverly Hillbillies, Mayberry R.F.D. and Green Acres, owing to network executives' feeling that its viewers reflected the "wrong" demographics (e.g. rural, somewhat older, and less affluent). Undaunted, the producers put together a syndication deal for the show, which continued in roughly the same format for 20 more years (though Owens departed in 1986). After Owens left, Clark was assisted each week by a co-host. In many markets, it competed in syndication (usually on early Saturday evenings) against The Lawrence Welk Show, which, for some of the same reasons, was also canceled and resurrected in syndication in 1971. (In a few areas, Hee Haw and Welk were shown back-to-back.) By 1991, a continued decline in its audience led to a dramatic change with more pop-oriented country music, in an ill-fated attempt to gain younger viewers. The new format (titled The Hee Haw Show, which had taken the cornfield out, and replaced it with a city street and a shopping mall) lasted a single season, during which the show alienated many of its longtime viewers. After its final 1992 season, the series went into its repeat cycle. A decision was made to end production of the series in the summer of 1992 and then a decision was made to bring the show back in syndication in the fall of 1992 at the start of the show's 25th season. The show was formally renamed Hee Haw Silver, which featured Clark hosting a mixture of classic clips and new footage, which ran during the 19921993 season to commemorate the Silver Anniversary of the program. Due to the life-span of the series being confusing to some it needs explaining. The show debuted as a mid-season replacement in June 1969 and because of this it's first season is considered to be those first few months on the summer schedule. It's 24th season is referred to the batch of shows that aired from January through May 1992 when it was re-titled The Hee-Haw Show. The fall of 1992 marked the beginning of the program's 25th season on the air. The Hee-Haw Silver episodes spotlighted many of the classic moments from the performers who had since died, including Stringbean, Archie Campbell, Junior Samples, and Kenny Price and it included a lot of look backs on the beloved comedy skits and the ratings shown improvement with the classic reruns. The series left the air in 1993 at the conclusion of it's 25th season but the show would continue to pop up in reruns throughout the 1990's and later, in a series of successful DVD releases from Time Life during the following decade, which shown how popular and profitable the program still was. Reruns After the show's syndication run ended, reruns aired on The Nashville Network from 1994 until 1997. Its 21 years in TV syndication was the record for a U.S. program, until Soul Train surpassed it in 1993. Subsequently, Entertainment Tonight surpassed it in 2003 and Wheel of Fortune surpassed it in 2005. In 2006, Jeopardy! surpassed it also, making Hee Haw currently the fifth-longest-running off-network American TV program, though the longest of its genre. CMT announced that it would begin rerunning the series starting July 29, and reruns began in late September. The channel hosted a marathon of episodes on January 1, 2007, but the show has only aired sporadically since, with only three episodes airing from that time (March 13, July 7 and July 8) to the present. The show is no longer broadcast by CMT. In April 2007, the TV Land network recognized the series with an award presented by k.d. lang. In attendance were Roy Clark, Gunilla Hutton, Barbi Benton, the Hager twins, Linda Thompson, Misty Rowe and others. On August 12, 2008, RFD-TV announced that Hee Haw would return to a regular weekly TV slot premiering on RFD-TV September 7, 2008. The success of the program through DVD sales and the unwavering popularity among the program's core audience is perhaps what probably persuaded RFD-TV programmers to add the program to their line-up. Publicists say that the Hee-Haw reruns are the highest rated programs on their entire network and a lot of this is maybe due to nostalgia and possibly to younger viewers and, or, new viewers curious about the show and what it was all about. Recurring skits and segments Some of the most popular sketches and segments on Hee Haw included: "PFFT! You Was Gone!" : A comedic duet featured on the premiere episode and holds firm as one of the series' most endearing sketches. There are simple guidelines that will help you have better sleep tonight. At some point in their lives, for any number of reasons, nearly all Americans will have difficulties sleeping. This can lead to significant distress, but have no fear! There are simple steps to take that will help you to sleep better tonight.

Get up and go to bed at the same time every day, even on weekends.

We are creatures of habit, and our sleep is no exception. By consistently going to bed and getting up at the same time, we condition our body to follow a regular pattern of sleep. This allows our body’s natural clock, called a circadian rhythm, to help initiate and maintain our sleep.

Make sure your bedroom is quiet, dark, cool, and comfortable.

Studies find that sleeping in a cool environment is most conducive to sleep. By eliminating excess noise and light, we can minimize the disruptions that might wake us up. In addition, the bedroom should be a relaxing place and not a source of stress.

Bedrooms are for sleeping and sex, not for watching television or doing work.

Somehow we have managed to make the bedroom a multipurpose room. All electronics must be removed! Televisions, gaming systems, computers, telephones, and various other gadgets are stimulating and disruptive to sleep. Don’t allow them in your bedroom and don’t use them in the brief period before going to bed. Even the small amount of light from a computer screen in the evening hours can stimulate your brain into thinking it is time to be awake. Moreover, do not use the bedroom to do work as these activities are likewise stimulating and will disrupt your sleep.

Avoid caffeine, alcohol, and nicotine 4-6 hours before bedtime.

Caffeine can be found in expected places like coffee, soda pop, or tea, but also in unexpected foods like chocolate. As a stimulant it will keep you awake, even if used nearly six hours before bed. Likewise, nicotine will disrupt your sleep. And contrary to common practice, an alcoholic “nightcap” can actually make your sleep worse. Though it may cause you to become drowsy, alcohol fragments the stages of your sleep and makes it more disrupted.

Don’t take naps.

The period of time that you are awake adds to something called “sleep drive.” The longer we stay awake, the more we want to go to sleep. By taking a nap we can relieve this desire to sleep, but it will also make it less likely that we will be

able to easily go to sleep later. Adults should have a consolidated period of sleep at night without additional naps. If there is excessive daytime sleepiness and desire to nap, in spite of adequate sleep time, this might suggest a sleep disorder warranting further evaluation.

Exercise every day, but avoid doing it 4 hours before bedtime.

Staying active and physically fit is an excellent way to ensure a good night’s sleep. However, exercise too close to bedtime may actually cause difficulties in getting to sleep as your body will still be revved up.

Develop sleep rituals which include quiet activities, such as reading, 15 minutes before bedtime.

Just like we maintain for children, adults need daily sleep rituals prior to going to bed to allow us to unwind and mentally prepare for going to sleep. These rituals should include quiet activities such as reading, listening to relaxing music, or even taking a nice bath.

If you are having trouble getting to sleep, don’t struggle in bed or you will train yourself to have difficulties there.

Individuals who have difficulty initiating sleep often toss and turn in bed and try to force sleep to come. As this is repeated, night after night, this sets up a situation where we associate our bed with the anxiety of not being able to sleep. If you are unable to get to sleep within 15 minutes, go to another quiet place and lie down until you feel ready to fall asleep, and then return to your bedroom to sleep.

Avoid eating or drinking in the few hours right before going to bed, as these might lead to disruptions of your sleep.

For non-fans of Rachael Ray and her cooking shows, "E-V-O-O" means extra virgin olive oil, which, it turns out, is AMAZING for super dry, dehydrated skin or skin suffering the effects of anti-aging product overuse. In this month's Harper's Bazaar (which I read while in the chiropractor's office hoping for a quick fix for a bad crick in my neck, ugggh!), LA cosmetic dermatologist Jessica Wu suggests slathering on a thin layer at night.

Ever since I turned 35 and started using Retin-A religiously, my previously oily skin turned dry. My skin has never looked better but there's not an ounce of oil left in it. I've been combatting this with very expensive moisturizers (currently OBSESSED with Yonka's PampleMousse), but this morning I tried EVOO. The catch is to use a non-flavored oil (I think it's time I replace my bottle because it smells slightly rancid, ha!). My face felt pretty oily at first, but I wiped off the excess with super-soft Puff's and the result is perfectly oiled skin. My sunscreen glided over it perfectly. So EVOO gets two big thumbs up from me. By the way, that crick in my neck? The chiropractor didn't fix it. Had to go away on its own.

5 Ways to Stop Hair Breakage Now

Hair breakage can range from Not-So-Bad to Call 9-1-1. Some factors that contribute to breakage are out of your control, but many of the reasons behind hair breakage lead right back to what we do to our hair on a daily basis. While stopping breakage completely may take some time and serious TLC, you can often minimize it

pretty quickly by stepping up your hair care game.

1. Trim Your Ends

To some women, trimming equals cutting, which may as well equal "No, Thank You." Done right, a trim only removes dead ends, not whole chunks of hair. When you trim proactively, you reduce the chances that your ends become so dry and brittle that a cut becomes necessary. Women who suffer from split ends have to cut them away before they break off on their own. When split ends get out of control, they travel up the hair shaft, making a serious cut more likely. Instead, why not trim the bottom 1/4 to 1/2 inch of hair every two to three months? Trims are more even and less traumatic than cuts that have to be done.

2. Don't Brush Hair While Wet

Just say "no" to brushing your hair when it's soaking wet. Black hair is already fragile -- when wet, it's in its weakest state. It's fine to comb through your hair while wet; in fact, the ideal state to comb is when it's saturated with conditioner. But brushing black hair stretches it sometimes to the point-of-no-return. A loud "snap" is the last thing you want to hear while styling your hair.

What about women who want to straighten their hair before flat ironing? Aren't round brushes made for this? Brushes are okay once your hair is at least halfway dry, but dryer is better. Instead of a round bristle brush, use a paddle brush to smooth hair, but again, wait until your hair is at least 50% dry before tackling with a brush and blow dryer.

3. Get Some Protein ASAP

Depending on the level of your breakage, a weekly protein strengthening treatment may be perfect, or you may need emergency measures if your hair is breaking at an alarming rate. Usually, chemical damage is behind real breakage emergencies. An intense product like ApHogee Two-Step Protein Treatment can stop a lot of breakage in its tracks, but your hair may still be far from healthy.

It's important not to overdo the protein because too much can be drying. Alternate mild protein treatments with deep conditioners to keep your hair healthy and prevent breakage down the line.

Overlapping chemicals is a huge contributor to hair breakage. It can be tempting to apply permanent color and relaxers yourself, especially if you're trying to save money. It may get pricey to have a stylist perform these services, but when it comes to chemical treatments, it's worth it to have a professional do it. Save up for relaxer touch-ups and color, but you can do most of your daily hair maintenance yourself. If you follow the recommended chemical service schedule, you should only have a touch-up a minimum of every eight weeks, so it's not like this is a weekly service.

5. Ease Up on Heat

High heat = damage = breakage. Frequent heat = damage = breakage. See a pattern here? While curling irons, flat irons and blow dryers make our lives easier, allowing us to wear just about any style we can think up, these tools can also cause irrevocable damage when used too often or incorrectly. Constantly "bumping" your ends with an iron will weaken, thin and break them over time. Using heat that's way too hot even once can break your hair.

Use other methods of styling, such as wet setting on magnetic rollers or Curlformers. Wet wrap the hair for a sleek look, or wet set with braids and twists for cool waves. Save the heat tools for special occasions, and definitely no more than once a week.
